Empty Christmas card envelope with 'get boosted now' post mark, December 2021
In September 2021, it was announced that there would be a COVID-19 booster programme. This was designed to give people extra protection and reduce pressure on the NHS going into the winter. The rollout began in late September with people over 50, healthcare workers, and those particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 before opening up to all adults and some young people by the end of 2021. In December 2021, the speed of the rollout was increased due to concern about the spread of the Omicron variant. Boosters were a key part of the government’s strategy to tackle this, and much public health messaging focused on getting the vaccine to protect loved ones over the festive period. As well as national advertising campaigns encouraging booster vaccination, other methods like this post mark were used to raise awareness, particularly given the increased volume of post sent over the festive period.
