Issue 195 of 'Brightside', the magazine of Wandsworth Council, with a mince pie themed COVID-19 booster vaccination advert on the back cover, November 2021
In September 2021, it was announced that there would be a COVID-19 booster programme. This was designed to give people extra protection and reduce pressure on the NHS going into the winter. The rollout began in late September with people over 50, healthcare workers, and those particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 before opening up to all adults and some young people by the end of 2021. In December 2021, the speed of the rollout was increased due to concern about the spread of the Omicron variant. Boosters were a key part of the government’s strategy to tackle this, and much public health messaging focused on getting the vaccine to protect loved ones over the festive period. As well as national advertising campaigns encouraging booster vaccination, other methods were used including this very local advert from Wandsworth Council. As well as encouraging people to get their booster and flu vaccinations, it also recommends that people who did not complete the initial two doses of the vaccine have their second jab to get the most effective protection.
