Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) ticket with folder. Comprises of a standard class open return from Zone U1 London to York and corresponding wallet depicting train formation and details of the GNER on-service and network.
Airline style rail tickets, also known as Elgar tickets, were briefly used by British train operating companies, such as GNER in the early 2000s and continue to be used for international Eurostar services. The tickets have a magnetic strip on the reverse and were given to passengers in wallets, which were branded in corporate liveries and could be used as a promotional tool to promote rail services. Starting operations in 1996 and existing until 2007, GNER operated rail services on the East Coast Main Line between its London terminus at King’s Cross to stations in northern England and Scotland.
