Northwich and Runcorn Saltworks plan of proposed works

Northwich and Runcorn Saltworks. One Inch Ordnance Survey map adapted and hand coloured showing line of proposed works. March 1873.

Wincham and Northwich in Chesire were prominent areas for mining and production of rock salt with several privately operating mines in the area. The map indicates a link between the salt works and Sutton Doors evaporation works near Runcorn at a junction between the Birkenhead Railway and the London and North Western Railway. Proposed pumping stations and reservoirs along the route suggest it may have been a pipeline rather than railway.
