Beginning in summer 2020, the Social Wellbeing Team at Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent announced the start of their support package through monthly activity packs.
The fourth pack had the theme about people’s life journey and how places and traditions associated with them, all contribute to people’s identity, particularly storytelling. By this time COVID-19 restrictions had meant up to 6 people meeting indoors or outdoors was no longer allowed. It meant in person groups could not meet so for those that had access, small virtual groups via WhatsApp were set up. People were encouraged to keep socially distancing, hand washing and if possible to wear a face covering. Flu jabs were also being rolled out and peopple were encouraged to take up the offer as soon as it was offered.
Each pack had a theme and related puzzles, recipes, information sheets, colouring in and ways to communicate with messages boards by post. Realising that many of their local community might struggle with or not have access to digital communication, packs were posted and offers of help with WhatsApp and Zoom were offered.
