When the vaccination programme first began in the UK, children were not offered the COVID-19 vaccination. This guidance gradually changed over the second half of 2021 and early 2022. Initially, just children and young people in the higher risk categories were offered vaccinations, but by February 2022, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) was recommending the COVID-19 vaccine for all children over the age of 5.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, huge amounts of public health information were produced and distributed in the UK. Most of this came from the UK Health Security Agency, which was known as Public Health England until April 2021. This public health information covered a vast range of topics and was frequently updated to reflect changing guidelines and research.
