Large print leaflet titled 'COVID-19 vaccine: A guide to the spring booster for those aged 75 years and older residents in carehomes', from the UK Health Security Agency and the NHS, product code C22F80ENLP Version 1 February 2022 (APS), UK, 2022

Having independent access to public health information is always important, but particularly during a situation that is as changeable as a pandemic. The Equalities Act 2010 states that providing a variety of alternative accessible formats for leaflets and posters is a reasonable adjustment that institutions like the UK Health Security Agency can provide for disabled people. The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) define large print materials as larger than Arial font in size 16, compared to regular font size of 10 or 12. Large print formats make material more accessible to people who are blind or partially sighted. The layout and design of this leaflet is also clearer and less busy than the standard version of the leaflet – again making it easier to read. This is just one example of the many different accessible forms of public health information produced during the pandemic.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, huge amounts of public health information were produced and distributed in the UK. Most of this came from the UK Health Security Agency, which was known as Public Health England until April 2021. This public health information covered a vast range of topics and was frequently updated to reflect changing guidelines and research.
