Diabetes occurs when your body cannot produce enough insulin, a hormone made in your pancreas. Some people with the condition – and everyone with type 1 diabetes – rely on insulin injections or infusions to manage their blood sugar levels and prevent serious complications. Insulin lispro, sold under the brand name Humalog (among others), is a rapid-acting form of the hormone, also known as bolus insulin or mealtime insulin.
