Presentation cane, ebony with silver topped pommel, presented to Mr. Sidney Foreman for his first-aid work at the Charfield railway disaster, engraved ‘To Mr S. Foreman for services rendered at Charfield Rly disaster 13-10-28’, made by Howell & Co Ltd, Birmingham, 1924.

This walking cane was presented to a nineteen year old lamp lad, Mr. Sidney Foreman, for his first aid work and services rendered at the Charfield railway disaster on the 13th October 1928. The London Midland & Scottish Railway mail train failed to stop at the Charfield station signals and collided with a freight train, 15 people died including two children that were never identified and a further 23 were injured.
