Coley Avenue, Reading by Nicolaas Henneman
Image of an avenue of trees titled ' Coley Avenue, Reading ' page 22 of 'Talbotypes or sun pictures taken from the actual objects which they represent' published in 1847 by Nicolaas Henneman.
Nicolaas Henneman worked for William Henry Fox Talbot before setting up his own photographic businesses in Reading and London. This image of trees on Coley Avenue was made by Henneman and is housed in a book called ‘Talbotypes or Sun Pictures: Taken from the Actual Objects which they Represent’. The book contains ‘Talbotype’ or ‘Calotype’ prints by well-known nineteenth-century photographers, including Talbot and Rev Calvert Richard Jones. As there are no other known copies, it’s thought that is book was used a reference or sample guide by Henneman as he attempted to establish his businesses.
