Box of PG Tips pyramid teabags.
This is one of the last boxes of PG Tips pyramid teabags ever made, produced in September 2023 at the Brooke Bond / Lipton tea factory at Trafford Park, Manchester.
PG Tips pyramid teabags were developed in the 1990s to compete on the market with newly introduced round teabags. The result of a four-year scientific research effort, the three-dimensional pyramid shape gave the tea leaves more space to circulate than traditional square bags or the new round bags, quickly brewing a stronger cup of tea. Launched in 1996, pyramid bags quickly caught the public’s attention and made up a fifth of Britain’s teabag sales by 1999.
Production of PG-Tips pyramid teabags ceased in 2023 when the special machines used to make them were decommissioned, and production shifted back to square teabags, but filled with a new blend better suited to modern teamaking habits.
