October 1997 DAN (Disabled People's Direct Action Network) Newsletter. Self-published newsletter by DAN - Disabled People's Direct Action Network, 3 Crawley Road, London N22 6AN. 'Transport is a right - not a privilege!' reads the front cover of the newsletter. This issue of the DAN newsletter focuses on the decade following it's publication - so 1997 to 2007. It calls for 'all buses and trains to be accessible by 2007. Make the regulations NOW!'. The newsletter also contains several articles, inlcuding about Direct action in Bristol and London, the DAN National Day of Action taking place on the 13th of February 1997, and DAN members meeting with Glenda Jackson MP, Minister for Transport in London. There is also a Call to Action, encouraging DAN members and the public to send postcards and huge sized letters to then Prime Minister, Tony Blair, campaigning for disabled people's access to transport. The newsletter also contains poetry and cartoons by DAN members. Gill Crawford, the donor, was a founder member of DAN and representative in this newsletter.

DAN take part in Direct Action - which is protest action that has direct and visible presence in the world. Gill Crawford, the donor, was a founder member of DAN. This object speaks to the way that inaccessible public transport, including the railway, has impacted on disabled people, and also the way that disabled people have tried to combat this inaccesibility, and work towards creating a fairer and equitable transport system.
