This photograph of an unknown man has been heavily edited, with the sitter’s freckles - that are visible in 1987-5007/11, removed. Editing and retouching developed alongside photography. A person's appearance could be altered by using dyes to recolour a photograph, as well as through adjustments made to colour and tone in the developing process.
