Stele of King Hammurabi of Babylon, plaster copy, original 1st Dynasty, 1796-1750BC. In relief are shown King Hammurabi coming before the sun god Shamash. Beneath the figures are columns of cuneiform text which describe the laws, or codes, or Hammurabi, such as "An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth.". The original is now in the Louvre, Paris.
