Captain John Noel's cine camera used on 1922 Everest expedition
“NS No. 3 Kine' Camera”, 35mm ciné camera made by Newman Sinclair in Highgate, London, c. 1922, with case and accessories. Used by filmmaker Captain John Noel (1890-1989) on the 1922 British Mount Everest Expedition to shoot the film Climbing Mount Everest.
In 1922, as the British Everest expedition set out, audiences were fascinated with remote places. John Noel took eagerly anticipated film and photographs of the expedition. They proved so popular that, on a second expedition in 1924, film clips were that were regularly taken to Darjeeling by a relay of pony riders for processing were sent on to the Pathé news agency, to keep audiences updated.
