Alcor is a non-profit organization located in Scottsdale, Arizona, founded in 1972, focused on cryonics – the low-temperature freezing and storage of human bodies in the hope that future medical science will be able to restore them to life, and find cures for any medical conditions they may have.

This logo shows a phoenix with a person in front with their arms outstretched, copying the creature’s wings. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. There is also potentially a geographic reference as the Alcor Life Extension Foundation is located outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Alcor used this logo between 1994-2022. It was replaced by a star logo. Alcor was named after a star, which is in the Big Dipper as part of the Ursa Major constellation. Visible to the eye, this star was used as a test for vision for centuries.
