The Risk-Disk is a predictive tool. It was developed as part of an action plan during the late 1980s to prevent coronary heart disease. A simple scoring system assesses risks such as smoking, high blood pressure and cholesterol levels in relation to each other. The risk of heart disease is then read off the disk in increments from 'Least Risk' to 'Intermediate Risk' to 'Most Risk'. Those at risk from heart disease are encouraged to change their lifestyles, for instance by improving their diet, taking more exercise and giving up smoking. The Risk-Disk was supported by the British Heart Foundation and the Coronary Prevention Group.
