Bonney's apparatus for determining patency of fallopian tubes, by Downs Surgical Ltd., England, 1979
A pair of Fallopian tubes connects the ovaries to the uterus within the female reproductive system. Disease or infection can block the fallopian tubes. This makes it very difficult, if not impossible, for eggs released from the ovaries to reach the uterus for fertilisation.
This apparatus was named after its inventor, Dr Victor Bonney (1872-1953). He was an English obstetric surgeon. The apparatus was inserted into the fallopian tubes. These were then inflated by the surgeon holding a small hand pump. The pressure in the tube was gauged by a dial held in his other hand. The pressure gauge detected blockages within the tube.
