Booklet - "Change in Ante-Natal Care", by Sheila Kitzinger, 1981
Sheila Kitzinger wrote this report. It is of a working party set up by the National Childbirth Trust. The party investigated antenatal care in British hospitals. The National Childbirth Trust was founded in 1956 by parents seeking influence in obstetric practice. It concludes that one result of the increasing centralisation of antenatal care in large obstetric departments is, ‘the expectant mother is treated as a passive object of management who is fed into the system and whose progress through it from point to point is controlled as if she had no wishes or preferences of her own.’
