Champetier-de-Ribes' bag for inducing labour, waterproofed linen with rubber tube, and vulcanite tap, probably English, 1887-1910

A waterproofed linen bag with rubber tube, and vulcanite tap, probably English, 1887-1910. Champetier-de-Ribes designed this rubber-covered, silk inflatable bag in 1887. It was inserted into the uterus by means of special forceps. It was then filled with water in an effort to stimulate the contraction of the uterus, inducing labour.
