Adjustable gynaecological chair with hand grips and leg rests, and douche tray, steel and leather, c.1950

Gynaecological chairs, or urological chairs, are designed for examining the female reproductive organs. This chair is fully adjustable. The back folds down and the legs fold up to convert the chair into a table. The patient’s feet are placed in the steel stirrups to allow the doctor unrestricted access. Women often have examinations pre and post childbirth. They are checked for diseases affecting the reproductive organs or the urinary tract.
