Single Impression mould used in the injection moulding of a Tupperware "Mix-n-stor" container. Late 1960s.

During the Second World War, the British-invented polythene was used extensively for military purposes. After 1945 it found various other applications, including the development of Tupperware - a range of kitchen containers featuring a patented seal - by the American engineer Earl Silan Tupper. Tupperware became enormously popular after Tupper's marketing genius Brownie Wise developed the idea of 'party plan' selling.
