'Pyramid' dental unit, Japanese manufacture, very close copy of Ritter D54 unit, 1930-1938
‘High-tech’ dental units evolved from simple reclining chairs in the late 1800s. This 'Pyramid' dental unit is similar to those found in dental surgeries today. The functional ‘workstation’ incorporates electric lighting, ceramic plates to hold dental instruments, a mirror and a sink. The introduction of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948 saw dental treatment become free to all its users. This ‘Pyramid’ dental unit was manufactured in Japan for British company Richard Long and Co. Limited.
