Peter Tonkinson was a writer and storyline editor for Granada Television. He worked on the continuing drama Coronation Street from the late 1970s until about 1986.

Tonkinson developed famous storylines including the Ken, Mike and Deidre love triangle. He also created and developed the character of Curly Watts.
