Electricite de France
Électricité de France (EDF), literally Electricity of France, is a multinational electric utility company, largely owned by the French state. It became the main electricity generation and distribution company in France when it was formed at the nationalisation of energy in France. It had a unique focus on nuclear energy, and in 2009 had 56 active nuclear reactors across 18 sites across France.
In 2004 EDF was privatised, however the French government retained 84% equity. However, following the 2021-2022 energy crisis and the Russo-Ukrainian War threatening Europe's energy security, the French government announced the full renationalisation of EDF.
It is headquartered in Paris, France.
