Loughborough University

Loughborough University was formed as the Loughborough Technical Institute in 1909 to provide local facilities for further education and technical education. At the end of the Second World War, following a period of expansion, the institute would be divided into 4 separate colleges with the Loughborough College of Technology becoming an independent organisation. In April 1966 this would be given a charter as Loughborough University of Technology, and it would reunify with Loughborough College of Education in 1977. In 1996 it was renamed Loughborough University and 2 years later it reunified with Loughborough College of Art and Design. Between 2003 and 2010 the university acquired land to increase the size of its site to 440 acres and in 2015 it opened a second campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
