The Fall was a British post-punk band formed in Prestwich, Manchester in 1976. Famously, they underwent many changes of line-up, with singer/ songwriter Mark E Smith as the only constant. Musically, the band's sound also evolved, spanning a number of styles, starting with punk. The Fall's abrasive sound never endeared them to mainstream audiences, but they have a strong cult following.

The Fall are known for being prolific, producing 32 studio albums between 1979 and 2017. Many more compilation and live albums were also released.

Mark E Smith died in January, 2018, ending The Fall's career.
