British Nuclear Fuels Ltd

British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) was a nuclear and fuels company ownder by the UK government. It manufactured nuclear fuel, ran reactors generated and sold electricity, reprocessed and managed spent fuel, and decommissioned nuclear plants. It was created from the de-merger of the production division of the UK Atomic Energy Agency (UKAEA).

In 1999 BNFL aquired Westinghouse Electrical Company, and Westinghouse was sold by BNFL in 2005 to Toshiba.

It was headquartered at Risley, England until 2003, and they were then moved to Daresbury Park, near Warrington, England.

In April 2005, BNFL began restructuring, and it transferred all of its nuclear sites to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. By May 2009, BNFL had completed the sale of all its assets and had no remaining operations. On 14 October 2010 the Minister for the Cabinet Office announced that BNFL would be abolished.
