British Airport, established in 1909 as Blackpool Aerodrome. Blackpool Corporation assumed control of the airport from the Government on 1st April 1962, and in 1987 Blackpool Airport was recognised as a Private Limited Company with Blackpool Borough Council as 100% shareholder.

The airport was acquired by Balfour Beatty in May 2008, and in 2017 it was bought by Blackpool Council for £4.25m.
