Thomas Howard Lees was employed by John Hetherington & Sons Ltd in the 1920s - 1930s. When the firm was taken over, he was kept on and moved to the Vulcan Works. When the Works closed, Lees found a role at Brooks and Doxey. He specialised in the supply of replacement parts for machines sold in previous decades.
