George Newnes Limited

The publishing company George Newnes Limited, founded by Sir George Newnes, began when he published Tit-Bits an easy to read periodical in 1881. This title first published in Manchester was added too and in 1884 he moved the company to London as the readership of his periodicals increased. The company was restructured in 1897 with an injection of capital resulting in the company going into publishing novels and The Penny Library Series of books.

After his death, in 1910, the company continued to be active in publishing until the 1960s when it was acquired by Mirror Group Newspapers, along with Odhams Press and Amalgamated Press to form International Publishing Corporation.
