Charles Tilt was a British publisher and bookseller. Born in 1797, he was apprenticed in 1811 to a Mr Whitehead, a bookseller and stationer based in Portsea, Hampshire. In 1817 Tilt returned to London and spent the next few years working at Hatchards, Longman & Co, and other bookselling businesses.
October 1826 saw Tilt launch his own successful publishing and bookselling business at 86 Fleet Street. He specialised in richly illustrated books. Between 1840 and 1843 Tilt went into partnership with David Bogue, trading as Tilt & Bogue. He was succeeded by David Bogue in 1843.
