Greenaway, Catherine 1846

Artist and children's book author and illustrator, born 17 March 1846. Greenaway had a very successful career as an artist for greetings cards and children's books until her death on 6 November 1901. Here work was revived by collectors in the 1920s, and in 1955, the Kate Greenaway medal was established as an annual award for an outstanding illustrator of children's books.
