The firm was initially established as 'Marsland's', but was bought by William Bracewell of Barnoldswick and Mr Griffiths c1860. The Burnley Ironworks Company Ltd was founded in 1887 after Bracewell's death. The Burnley Ironworks became one of the town's major engineering firms, making a variety of products, including steam engines for mills.
