Taylor Brothers & Co Ltd
Taylor Brothers & Co was an iron and steel manufacturers, and producers of railway carriage and wagon wheels, tyres and axles. The company was established by George, James and Samuel Taylor at Clarence Iron Works, Leeds in 1857. It was registered as a limited company in August 1905. In 1919, Taylor Brothers was acquired by Vickers and merged with Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company Limited, following Vickers' acquisition of the Metropolitan Carriage, Wagon and Finance Company. Additional works were established at Trafford Park, Manchester in 1920, with the Leeds works closing in 1921, and all production moving to Trafford Park. Taylor Brothers became part of the English Steel Corporation in 1928. The business was nationalised in 1951.
