Department for Culture, Media and Sport

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport, commonly referred to as the DCMS, was established on 14 July 1997 as a successor to the Department of National Heritage. The DCMS held responsibility for government policy relating to the arts, broadcasting, the press, museums and galleries, libraries, sport and recreation, historic buildings and ancient monuments, tourism, and the music industry. The Department acts as the funder for the UK Arts Councils and other art bodies.
