Eugene Gaspard Marin was a molinologist, anthropologist and was also known as an anarchist. He was born on the 8th October 1883 in Watermael- Boitsfort, Belgium. From 1905 to 1908 he became part of the libertarian communist colony of Stockel-Boi, they werevery active in propaganda. In 1914 Marin left Belgium and moved to the Tolstoyan community Whiteway, Gloucestershire, England, where he resided until his death in 1969.

In 1928 Marin travelled for 10 years around the world, he often stopped and mingled with local people to learn how they lived. He collected a mass of sociological and ethnological information recorded in hand-written notebooks. After his trip Marin endeavoured to classify the information he had collected, his goal was to do a classification of human knowledge. The themes he tackled were diverse and comprise both the extetent of time, windmills and forms of sleeping.
