Norris Brothers Limited

Norris Bros Ltd, consultant design engineers

Norris Brothers, based in Haywards Heath in Sussex, was established by Ken and Lew Norris with their brother Eric an accountant. In 1955 they designed a Bluebird hydroplane boat which was driven by Donald Campbell, setting a water speed record on Coniston Water, and on 6 occasions thereafter. The same year K. W. Norris and L. H. Norris began work on the design of Bluebird C.N.7, a gas turbine powered car, for Donald Campbell to attempt the land speed record.

In 1958 they had a patent on apparatus for manoeuvring flexible pipes and in 1963 patented with BP a method of making potable water from sea waste. In 1960 they had completed the bluebird car. Donald Campbell worked closely with Kenneth Norris on the design of the Bluebird hydroplane in which he met his death in 1967, the next project would have been a rocket-powered supersonic car.
