Chapman & Furneaux Ltd, locomotive builders situated in Gateshead took over the Quarry Field Works of Black, Hawthorn & Co. in 1896 and continued business by building 70 locomotives. In 1902 the company was acquired along with the drawings and patterns by R & W Hawthorn, Leslie & Co Ltd, ship and engine builders, locomotive engineers of Newcastle.
