West Driefontein Gold Mine was registered in March 1945 by West Driefontein Gold Mines Company Ltd and ultimately became recognised as one of the most prolific gold producers in the country. The mine is located in South Africa’s West Wits Line goldfield, south west of Johannesburg. The adjoining East Driefontein Gold Mine was registered in May 1968 and merged with West Driefontein Gold Mines Comany during July 1981 to form a new company, Driefontein Consolidated Limited.
