A publishing house formed in Glasgow in 1809 by John Blackie in partnership with two others. In 1831 the company was renamed as Blackie and Son and became a public limited company in 1891. As well as having offices in Glasgow they also had offices in Edinburgh and London, they later opened offices in Canada and India. The company ceased publishing in 1991.
