The Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Export Company was established in September 1919 to handle overseas trade on behalf of the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company. The first chairman was R.S. Hilton, with H. J. Lloyd as managing director, E. J. Summerhill as administrative manager (later general manager), and F. S. Holder as representative at Trafford Park.

The business opened offices overseas, wherever there was deemed to be a sufficient market. Initially it therefore had offices in Brussels, Bombay, Calcutta, Johannesburg, Melbourne and Sydney. The business made use of agents elsewhere, often accompanied by a Metropolitan-Vickers representative. The Export Company expanded in the years after its foundation, particularly in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. The company opened several branch offices in New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina and the Far East, as well as starting a lucrative relationship with the U.S.S.R.

Thanks to its overseas business, Metropolitan-Vickers created an overseas apprentice scheme with its own association.

The Export Company is known to have been in operation until at least 1949.
