Waynman Dixon was born c 1844. His uncle was John Dixon, the first Chief Engineer of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Waynman Dixon is perhaps best remembered for his role in bringing Cleopatra’s Needle from Egypt to London and of erecting it on the Thames Embankment. He died on 24 January 1930.
