The Ministry of Civil Aviation was established by an Act of Parliament passed in April 1945. Prior to the act, civil aviation was part of the Air Ministry's remit. The new Ministry was charged with supporting and developing civil aviation in Britain. In October 1953 it became part of the new Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
