Howards of Ilford was formed as part of a reorganisation of Howards and Sons Limited, which had also been known as Howards of Ilford prior to this. The new company took over manufacturing operations whilst the old one became a holding company. It continued to manufacture solvents and organic intermediates until 1961 when both the manufacturing and holding companies where acquired by Laporte Industries.
