Dales Chemicals Limited was a mining company formed to extract fluorite and barite from spoil heaps left on Grassington Moor by previous lead mining activities. It was incorporate on 10th October 1955 and leased the mining rights for Grassington Moor from Fred Smith. In 1964 the company was acquired by Laporte Industries Limited and it continued to operate as a subsidiary of it, and later Degussa Chemicals.
