Lofthouse, Joseph Platt 1813 - 1857

Joseph Platt Lofthouse was born in 1813 as the son of James Lofthouse, a surveyor, and Jane Lofthouse (previously Jane Platt), in Checkley, Staffordshire. He would follow his father into the same profession and would survey much of Staffordshire during the 1830s. In September 1840 he would marry Elizabeth Reeves and they would have two daughters, Elizabeth and Louisa, and a son Joseph. During the 1840s he would move to London and survey the Kensington area for the 1851 Great Exhibition. He would return to Staffordshire following this and would continue surveying until his death on 30th November 1857.
