AMEC Foster Wheeler Limited
AMEC Foster Wheeler Limited, originally known as Amalgamated Mechanical Engineering and Construction
(AMEC) Limited was an international consultancy, engineering and project management company responsible for numerous projects in various counties around the world. Its main focus was on the oil, gas chemical, mining, power and infrastructure sectors but it would be involved in numerous others over the course of its existence. Founded in 1982 by the merger of Leonard Fairclough & Son and William Press Group it would acquire a number of other companies throughout its existence that would allow it to operate in a number of different fields and countries. This included Foster Wheeler, which was taken over in 2014, at which point AMEC Limited changed its name to AMEC Foster Wheeler Limited. During 2016 a downturn in oil and gas revenue led to a reduction in orders from the company’s primary customers resulting in increased debts and the resignation of Samir Brikho from the Chief Executive position. The following year the company would be acquired by the Wood Group for £2.2 billion.
