Channel Tunnel Study Group

The Channel Tunnel Study Group was established in July 1957 to carry out studies into the conditions which would have to be overcome to construct a tunnel between Britain and France. It was comprised of Societe Concessionaire du Chemin de Fer Sous-marin entre la France et l’Angleterre, Compagnie Financiere de Suez and Technical Studies Inc, the firm established by Frank P. Davidson who acted as the initial driving force. The group was active between 1958 and 1971 during which time it undertook a number of investigations into the geology of the Channel and possible engineering solutions.
