GenAir
Genair was a commuter airline that operated between 1981 and 1984. Initially, the company was based on the operations of General Relays Ltd, who had purchased a corporate aircraft in 1980 which was used occasionally for charter flights. Following the purchase of further aircraft they were able to become licensed for regular flights from their base in Liverpool to Gatwick. At the time there were only limited flights from this airport so the company was able to become a feeder service for British Caledonian’s long haul services. Following success on this first route the company would expand with new aircraft and operations. In 1982 its parent, General Relays, would acquire Lease Air Ltd, which operated as Eastern Airways, and Casair. The expanded company would become Britain’s largest commuter airline with a base at Humberside Airport. Although it would continue to expand both its fleet and routes the company would collapse in July 1984.
